Art Scarves Travel Diaries : South Beach Miami

A warm weekend getaway to South Beach, Miami was a perfect escape from our arctic zone.

We stayed on Ocean drive in a gorgeous boutique hotel called the Beacon Hotel, built in the Art Deco style, below are pictures from the lobby.

I paired it with my Abstract Buddha Scarf, which pick up some of the elements with its geometry and colors.

The blue skies with the palm trees and the beach across the hotel were such a welcome change!

The water was too cold for me and I was content to laze on the beach with my book and my sketch pad. I used the River Horse Scarf as a cover up to pick up the  azure blues of the skies and the water.

As we strolled down Ocean Drive, we came upon Gianni Versace’s stunning mansion, built in the Mediterranean Revival style, now converted to a hotel. It is apparently the second most photographed building (after the White House!) in the US.

I selected the The Henna Horse scarf for it’s complementing colors and I wore it tied to my bag on the day we walked  by the beautiful property.

We took an Art Deco Walking Tour run by the Miami Design preservation League and I highly recommend it. It definitely increased my appreciation of the surrounding architecture and provided a lot of fun facts. On their recommendation we stepped inside the post office on our walk to Lincoln Road and saw the gorgeous mural below.

I had to pair it with my own horses of course! The Equine Quartet Scarf reflects the horses in the mural and the colors of the post boxes.

A great brunch stop is The News Cafe, where you can enjoy your food and people watch. Incidentally, it was Versace’s favorite and he had breakfast there before he was shot, walking to his house. It was coincidental then to see a couple seated next to us with a Versace baby stroller! ( wish I had a better picture).

Oh.. and that is me with my mimosa in my Yin and Yang Scarf!

We spied a huge statue of Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles and god of  all beginnings, nestled amongst a bamboo grove in South Beach! It reminded me of India and I had to pair it with The Indian Jungle Scarf . As with all beginnings there are always endings and we said goodbye to our wonderful getaway, rejuvenated and ready to tackle life and work.
